Last weekend, the
Domaine du Radar
the famous annual gathering of the vanlife community: El Campo Vanfest. . A look back at an event not to be missed.
Masterfully led by
Go-Van
and his faithful
Captain MAC
we were exactly 272 vans. SICK!
We were lucky enough to take part for the first time. What we remember of the weekend: vintage vans, new vans, converted buses, inspiring people, laughter, original set-ups, a few drops of rain but campfires to keep warm… We’ll tell you more below!
Touching lectures and stories
El Campo is the perfect opportunity for travel addicts to share their experiences and adventures with people who share the same passion: vanlife. And some of them have been there, done that!
We thoroughly enjoyed following the adventures of Julie Plante‘s adventures. Aboard her magnificent beauty & well-being caravan
(the very first in Quebec!)
she spent 9 months on the road in Central America. The aim of her van road-trip: to help women in Central American countries. From Guatemala to Panama, via Costa Rica. It was a successful gamble for the young Quebecer. Over 200 women were helped across the continent! BRAVO!
We also met an inspiring Spanish couple.
After 5 years on the road aboard “La Furiosa” (a Volkswagen Transporter T4), Lidia and Javi, the Van Travellers, have already covered 39 countries and more than 120,000 kilometers!
“Life is an open roadA thought they seem to follow to the letter! We were lucky enough to attend their very first international conference: budget, problems, favorites, they shared a bit of their daily lives…. Total immersion in their world and their way of life. Next destination… Mongolia!
Great encounters and great characters
Among the encounters we made, we were particularly impressed by the family behind the project
Hempbassadors
. Behind this beautiful green bus, completely refurbished by Marie and Francis, lies a whole story. These ambassadors for hemp, entrepreneurs and farmers, have decided to promote the various virtues of this little-known plant. check it out!
We also crossed paths with a number of ben original characters. Starting with la Fée Fanny (fairy tale), who takes to the road with her family in her converted bus. This little fairy flies from seat to seat, telling stories to the little ones. We loved the trip back to childhood!
We had a nice chat with
Marcias
a zany dairy farmer. He entertained us all weekend and made us laugh. Thanks to him for warming our little hearts when it was so cold!
Good music
Because a festival wouldn’t be a festival without good music! We share with you the best tunes of the weekend.
We fell in love with the
Mixbus
of Jacob, who gave us a good thrill from the top of his big bus. Check this is sick!
Our favorite band is
Clay and Friends
! Fans of hip-hop, reggae and soul, this is for you! Their best-known song “
Going Up the Coast
“was written for El Campo 2 years ago, and the clip is as beautiful as the song! Don’t hesitate to follow them on the
networks
.
We finally discovered a lot of great talent during this festival, including : Anthony Roberge and his instruments, Fuso accompanied by his guitar,
Jonathan Freeman
around the fire, and last but not least David Pozay ! Thanks to you for the atmosphere!
Many thanks El Campo!
This weekend gave us the opportunity to meet some of you who have been following us on this crazy adventure for the past 2 years, and for that we’re very grateful. We’re proud to be part of this wonderful community of freedom-lovers, and to play a small part in it by offering van rentals in Montreal.
Our aim is to offer everyone the chance to enjoy a unique, alternative experience as close to nature as possible. Whether camping or boondocking, Quebec is full of hidden secrets, and discovering them in a converted van is an economical and flexible way.
After such a great weekend, we can’t help but feel that we belong here, and looking at all the smiles on the faces of the vanneux, we feel very lucky to be surrounded by this gang. We can assure you that we’ll be there next year, with even more projects and even more fun, all thanks to you.
Thanks again to the entire Go-Van team and to all the participants we didn’t mention in this article, for this wonderful event!
