I have a French driving licence. Is that enough to drive a campervan in Quebec?
Visitors can drive in Québec for up to 6 consecutive months with a valid licence issued in another country or Canadian province. For more information, visit the
official government website – SAAQ.
Your driver’s licence must be presented when picking up the vehicle.
Does Le Baroudeur insurance cover my personal belongings?
No – our protections cover vehicle-related incidents only.
We recommend obtaining third-party insurance for your personal belongings. Also note that damages to the conversion structure or equipment (cooler, stove, etc.) are not covered.
Where do I pick up and return the vehicle?
Pick-up and return take place at the branch selected during your booking (Montréal or Québec City).
The exact address is indicated on your rental contract sent by email.
Make sure to select the correct branch during booking, as this automatically determines your pick-up and return location.
Returning to a different branch may be possible upon approval, and additional fees apply.
What time should I return the vehicle?
You can return the vehicle:
- Before 5 PM for an assisted return with a team member
- Until 11:45 PM for a self-return (new in 2026 – no additional fee)
This choice must be confirmed before departure.
Planning ahead allows you to fully enjoy your road trip without worrying about the return.
By confirming the time in advance, we also avoid having to contact you during your stay (because all good things must come to an end 😉) and this allows us to plan the team and vehicle preparations properly.
How do I reach your branch from the airport?
Our branches are easily accessible by public transit, taxi or Uber.
Detailed instructions will be sent to you by email before your arrival.
I’m arriving from abroad. Can I leave the same day?
Yes, absolutely.
However, we recommend planning a first stop near the branch to familiarize yourself with the vehicle and equipment.
This also helps account for travel fatigue and jet lag.
Important: after 5 PM, pick-ups are Self-check in. Instructions will be sent in advance.
Can I return the van to a different branch?
Yes, but this must be approved by our team in advance.
A relocation fee will apply depending on the route and vehicle availability.
I’m taking a ferry. Where can I find the vehicle registration?
You can find the vehicle registration number directly on your rental contract (example: FSG…).
We always do our best to assign you the vehicle you booked, but the assigned vehicle may change for a similar model until the day of departure due to operational adjustments.
If you plan to take a ferry during your trip, please let us know in advance.
Vehicle length:
- Minivan: 17 feet (518 cm)
- Ready-to-camp SUV: 15 feet (457 cm)
In what condition should I return the vehicle?
We take care of the complete cleaning between each rental.
We simply ask that the vehicle be returned in reasonable condition:
- Empty and clean the cooler
- Sweep the interior lightly
- Remove all garbage
- Quickly clean the kitchen and used dishes
This helps us prepare the vehicle quickly for the next travellers and maintain the same quality of experience for everyone.
Additional cleaning fees may apply if the vehicle is returned in very dirty condition.
Where can I travel with your campervans?
With your Le Baroudeur campervan, you are free to travel across:
- Quebec
- Ontario
- New Brunswick
- Nova Scotia
- Prince Edward Island
- Newfoundland (excluding Labrador)
For the United States, travel is allowed on the East Coast only.
The “USA travel option” must be added to your booking so our insurance provider can be notified.
Can I travel to Western Canada?
Yes, under certain conditions:
For Western Canada (MB, SK, AB, BC): trips must be round-trip from the original branch, and approval from our team is required before departure.
Additional insurance and mileage fees may apply.
If you are considering this itinerary, contact us so we can review the conditions together.
Are there showers or toilets in the vans?
No – our vans are designed for a simple and flexible vanlife experience.
Most campgrounds offer sanitary facilities, and public restrooms are easy to find in parks, gas stations and rest areas.
This allows us to keep our vehicles compact, affordable and easy to drive.
What should I pack for my road trip?
Not sure what to bring? Here’s a helpful checklist so you pack only the essentials while keeping space for souvenirs.
What size is the bed?
Minivan (indoor bed)
- Standard mattress: 69 x 48 inches (175 x 122 cm)
- Maximum length: 75 inches (190 cm) when front seats are moved forward.
Rooftop tent
- Size: 81 x 55 inches (208 x 140 cm)
Will my luggage fit in the vehicle?
Yes – BUT we strongly recommend that you travel light and opt for soft-sided bags to make the most of the space.
Here are the internal dimensions of the compartments where you can store your personal belongings:
- Front module: 20 x 22 x 10 inches (50.8 x 55.88 x 25.4 cm)
- Rear module: 46 x 26 x 9.5 inches (116.84 x 66.04 x 24.13 cm)
- Space between modules: 19.5 inches (49.53 cm)
If needed, you can leave your luggage at the branch free of charge during your road trip.
Can I charge my devices?
Yes – all vehicles include:
- USB ports
- USB-C ports
- 12V outlet
Note: the cooler uses the 12V outlet.
A portable battery is available with the “Connected Kit option“.
Do your vehicles have child seat anchors?
Yes – child seats may be available depending on availability.
You can also install your own compatible seat using ISOFIX anchors.
For insurance reasons, installation must be done by travellers, but we can guide you on site if needed.
Can my children sleep in the rooftop tent?
It depends on their age – for safety reasons, we do not recommend that children under 5 years old sleep alone in the rooftop tent. It is preferable that an adult accompanies them.
Some families choose to have one parent sleep in the rooftop tent with the child while the other parent sleeps inside the van. This setup allows everyone to have their own space and often provides a better night’s sleep for the person inside the vehicle.
What is the fuel consumption?
Fuel consumption varies depending on driving style and itinerary. Here are, however, some average figures (for guidance only):
Converted minivan
- City: ~12 L / 100 km
- Highway: ~8.5 L / 100 km
- Range per tank: ~700 km
A full tank (regular gasoline E87) costs approximately $100–105 CAD depending on fuel prices.
Converted SUV
- City: ~9 L / 100 km
- Highway: ~7 L / 100 km
- Range: ~700 km
Average full tank cost: $87–90 CAD.
What about the hybrid minivan?
Our Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid combines a gasoline engine and electric motor.
- Electric range: ~50 km
- Total range: ~800 km per tank
Charging is possible on Level 1 or Level 2 chargers widely available in Québec.
You can still drive without charging, the gasoline engine takes over automatically.
Baroudeur tip: recharge while hiking or visiting an attraction to save fuel.
Do I need to connect to electricity?
No – our vans are designed to be fully autonomous, so you don’t need powered campsites.
The cooler runs while the vehicle is driving. During longer stops, a simple bag of ice keeps food cold.
You stay flexible, autonomous and free in your itinerary.
Do I need to book campsites in advance?
It depends on the season.
Between mid-July and mid-August, we recommend booking some popular campgrounds and your first night in advance.
During the rest of the season, it’s not necessary to reserve every night unless you have specific locations in mind.
At other times, it is also possible to camp outside of campsites (where permitted).
Our roadbook will provide tips and resources to help you plan your nights.
What campsite type should I book?
Good news: our campervans are accepted on most tent campsites.
Just make sure:
- vehicles are allowed on the site (especially in Sépaq or Parks Canada parks)
- the access road is suitable
As our campervans don’t require any special utilities (water or electricity), you can usually avoid campsites with facilities, which are often more expensive.
The cool box works whilst the vehicle is running. During long stops, a simple bag of ice (available at most campsites) will keep your food cool without any hassle.
If you are unsure, we recommend that you contact the campsite directly to confirm availability and the type of pitch.
Vehicle dimensions:
- Minivan: 17 feet (518 cm)
- Ready-to-camp SUV: 15 feet (457 cm)
