Want to do a family road trip in Quebec? Aude, William, and their 3-year-old Nell had the pleasure of discovering Quebec by converted minivan in the fall of 2024! The family was captivated by the blazing fall colours, the animals they spotted along the way, and even the northern lights that lit up their adventure. They left us, just for you, some of their best tips for living an incredible experience, stress-free.
If you’re travelling with kids and wondering whether it’s really realistic to go on a road trip with little ones, the answer is YES! And even more so in a converted minivan — a great way to live the vanlife adventure without the hassle!
Why is a converted minivan road trip perfect for kids?
A rolling hideout
Kids love little hideaways, cozy corners, forts… And a converted minivan is exactly that. A snug and reassuring space where they can rest, play, draw, eat, and nap between stops. You can even set up a little sleep, reading, or stuffed-animal nook in the front thanks to the baby option we offer with its hammock for a guaranteed cocooning vibe (you can add it when you book)!

bedding, hammock, mattress,…
For older kids, we recommend booking a van for 4 people; two sleep inside the van and the other two in the rooftop tent! One heads-up though: we recommend that children 5 years old and under be accompanied by an adult when sleeping in the rooftop tent.

A pace that follows your child’s lead
No need to chase a schedule: travelling by van means being able to go at your own pace. An afternoon nap in the middle of the forest, a play break by a lake, a picnic with a warm and comforting meal — it’s simpler and more fluid than tent camping. The van offers the comfort and flexibility you need to enjoy the journey, whatever the day has in store.
To be well equipped, here are some accessories we recommend for your family road trip in Quebec :
- 🎒 A hiking baby carrier : perfect for nap time while you keep on climbing to the summit
- 🔦 A rechargeable night light : so that bedtime in the van feels reassuring (and to avoid waking everyone up while searching for night socks)
- 🧺 A bin of toys/books : takes up little space and prevents the “I’m booooored” moments on rainy days
- 🧼 Biodegradable wipes : nature will thank you
- 🐤 A washable silicone bib
- 🧃Snacks : granola bars and fruit pouches can be lifesavers during outings
- 🍴Dehydrated meals : super practical for eating on hikes
- ☔️ A rain suit : fleece-lined ones don’t take up too much space and keep you warm just right

Fall is the ideal season
The nights are cool and pleasant, there are fewer people on the roads and in the parks, and the scenery — wow! It’s literally a living painting. Every day, the trees change colour. That’s the magic of Quebec in the fall!
Travelling by converted minivan as a family is also an opportunity to refocus on what matters most: nature, shared moments, the unexpected turns that become memories, and the simple joy of a warm meal by a lake.
