The Roadtrippers are Camille and Pierre, two travelers who began to taste the joys of the road trip by crossing Canada in a van. They have since hit the road again, working alongside writing a book, Road Trip Makes Me Free, filled with tips and advice for travelers ready to hit the road. Obviously, as good vanpackers, we wanted to know more about them!
Hello the Roadtrippers! Can you first introduce yourself in a few words?
We are Camille and Pierre, both 27 years old. Bretons of origin, we now live from country to country, always looking for new experiences and new discoveries. We are currently working as a freelance in digital communication and web marketing.
How did you come up with the desire to take a road trip in Canada, and how has it been?
We needed wide open spaces, freedom and nature. Canada is a pretty good country for it, isn’t it? We left with 2 WHV in our pocket. We lived in Montreal for 4 months and went on a roadtrip for 3 months with the aim of crossing the whole country from East to West. Living in Montreal several months before going on a roadtrip helped us prepare for our trip: finding a van, insurance, convert the van … Being able to do all these procedures and work in a French-speaking environment was a big plus.
What did you like about this nomadic life?
Permanent wonder, contact with nature and a certain simplicity of life.
Your best memory of this road trip? A place to recommend for our vanpackers?
All the beautiful sunsets that we were able to fully enjoy. A place to recommend? There are many ! For example, the Cape Saint George in Newfoundland. We have fond memories of our road trip on the island of Newfoundland. We fell in love with its raw landscapes and it is very easy to travel there by van.
You have created a Facebook group promoting mutual aid within the road tripper community,Mon Road Trip au Canada. Did you feel this mutual help on the road?
Yes, a lot ! It is important for us to promote mutual assistance and good advice between travelers who have already left and those returning from a trip. It’s a good way to get personalized advice and real-time information.
You have started writing a book for roadtrippers. How did you get this idea?
Beyond a simple idea, writing a book was a dream for us. It was also the realization of our roadtrip. We wanted to create a book that would bring together practical advice and road books to share our experience, inspire and help travelers prepare their next roadtrip in Canada.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to go on a road trip?
Now many options and applications exist for roadtrips, whether in France or on the other side of the world. So let’s go!
What are your plans for the future? New road trips to come?
Now that our book is out, we need to ensure its distribution. We are therefore leaving all summer on the roads of France to meet booksellers and readers. We will also give book signing sessions and run workshops to help prepare for a roadtrip in Canada.
Finally, how would you define a vanpacker?
A backpackers on wheels?
We agree ! To get the Roadtrippers’ book, click here !
We also recommend the Facebook support group Mon Road Trip au Canada, which already has 400 members, and which we co-manage with them: it’s here!
