The time has come to reserve your minivan for your next trip to Quebec, YEAH! And to make sure everything goes smoothly, here are a few simple steps to help you get ready for your great road trip!
1- Choosing the right dates
Choosing the right time to travel in Quebec is essential to getting the most out of the experience. The camping season is fairly short (between May and October), so it’s important to ask yourself the right questions to choose the right period: what kind of activity do I want to do? Do I prefer cooler temperatures or a heatwave? Do I want to run with the crowds or have the Gaspé beaches all to myself? Pro tip #1: July and August sell out from February onwards, so don’t delay booking if you want to travel then!
Please note that we do not provide pick-up for Sunday morning departures, so please take this into account when choosing your dates 😉.
It’s also important to allow enough time to do what you’ve put on your list, which brings us to the next step.
2- Choose your destination
OK, you don’t have to decide your entire itinerary now, but selecting at least the main points you want to visit will help you plan your travel and the number of days you need to set aside. We’ll give you a hint: the Gaspésie region is the size of Belgium, and it takes about 6 hours to drive from Montreal to Tadoussac. So no, 5 days isn’t enough for Quebec big tour with a short trip to Niagara Falls… and enjoy it!
Quick tip: don’t hesitate to simulate your itinerary on Google Maps to get an idea of the number of kilometers you’re about to cover! And the Bonjour Québec website is always a good reference to help you select the must-see spots this summer!
3- Reserve your vehicle
Now you’ve reached the key stage: reserving your vehicle! Pro tip #2: use your computer instead of your phone. This will make it much easier to navigate between booking steps, as our platform is not very compatible with small handheld devices😉
Ready? You can now click on this link to go directly to the “Booking” page of our website. If your dates are flexible, you can select the “Calendar” mode to see your options. If your dates are fixed, then choose the “List” view and enter your dates in the fields to the left of the table.
4- Choosing the right vehicle
Once you’ve booked your dates, you can choose the right vehicle for your needs. We have minivans for 1 to 2 people, others for 1 to 4 people, and SUVs for 1 to 2 people, if you’re traveling alone or with 2 people, you’re spoiled for choice! If you’re traveling with more than 2 people, you’ll need to select a 1 to 4 person minivan with a tent on the roof. Don’t forget to add it as an option! This is very important if you want everyone to have a bed to sleep in! Also, keep in mind that when traveling with a van with a roof tent, you’ll need to focus more on dedicated campgrounds for sleeping at night. We explain why in this blog post.
5- Choosing your options
You’re now at the stage of choosing your options. You don’t have to add any, but here are our favorites for a successful road trip:
- The Mosquito Kit, to sleep comfortably without being eaten by mosquitoes (especially between early June and mid-August!).
- The Confo Kit, for complete bedding and a good night’s sleep.
- The Electro Kit, for peace of mind when you plug your cooler into the included portable battery (and the little light garland, the team’s favorite!).
- Extra kilometer blocks: although we offer 220km/day with the rental, your itinerary may take you beyond the amount allotted for your trip. Pro tip #3: if you’ve calculated your itinerary and you’re within 200km of going over, now’s the time to add to it. It would be a shame to miss out on seeing what’s lurking at the end of that lovely-looking road, just because you don’t want to pay your extra km at the end😉
6- Confirm your reservation
If you’ve got this far, then good news! All that’s left to do is make your deposit payment and, above all, keep a close eye on your inbox to make sure you don’t miss any of the valuable information that will be sent to you between now and your departure. Pack your bags, the adventure is coming!
As always, we’re available to answer any questions you may have, so don’t hesitate to drop us an e-mail or give us a call. We’ll be happy to help you plan your Quebec road trip🙂 You can also browse our FAQ section for a wealth of information.
