Zero waste advice n° 1 : Bring your reusable bag for the things you buy
We do it when we’re home, why would it be different when we’re travelling? It doesn’t take much space and you won’t have to use plastic bag during your road trip.
Reusable net bags for your vegetables and fruits
During summer, there are a lot of season vegetables and fruits in Quebec, so it’s the time to take advantage of that! But when it’s the time to pay, your nice lettuce and your aspargus are often given in plastic bags. Solution : Bring small net bags for your fruits and your vegetables ! Be warned, though : it’s not as easy to do with small fruits, as raspberries or blueberries, which brings us to the next advices !
Zero waste advice n° 2 : Bring your food containers from home
YES! Easy, but we have to think of it! Every one have plastics containers or plastic glasses at home, either for lunchs or for the rest of our dinners. You can bring some in your luggage to keep the rest of your dinner, as you do at home. #wealwaysmaketoomuchpasta. Bonus advice: I love the Stashers silicone bags. 😉
Zero waste advice n° 3 : The bee wraps (or wax wraps)
These wax wraps can be used instead of regular plastic wraps and they don’t take much space ! Perfect to cover a piece of cheese, the other half of your avocado that you used for your guacamole or even to wrap the sandwich you just prepared for your hike.
Zero waste advice n° 4 : Plan your bulk groceries
You think of eating pastas every night? You need your oatmeal every morning? Well, we’re pretty sure you must have everything you need at home. You’ll save money during the grocery you’ll make right before departure, and that way, you’ll be able to buy more delicious and fresh food on the road ! You can also order your grocery in bulk online and it’ll be delivered in your van by our partner BocoBoco! Get a promo code for your next bulk groceries when you’ll book a van with us 🙂
Zero waste advice n° 5 : Eating in a restaurant = bring your own fork and knife!
Who say road trips say Poutine stop at the corner fast food #potatoshack ! So you should get the habits to bring your fork (the one in your van if you want!) and a reusable straw for your restaurant dinners! It really doesn’t take place and you won’t have to use a plastic one that would have been thrown at the end of your dinner. And if you want to do more, you can also bring your plates and your glass with you! Don’t hesitate to take them out when you’re ordering, most places will accept them.
Zero waste advice n° 6 : Reusable water bottle
A simple thing, you don’t even need explication here ! 😉
Bonus : The Mug
It’s not a secret anymore, we’re proud to say we have a partnership with La Vague organization who are behind the project of La Tasse (The Mug) If you already travelled with us, you probably used their reusable mug that you can exchange at one of the 350 coffee shop members around the province. No more excuse, you have it right before your hands during your complete road trip!
